Our Future aims
Our Future Aims
At Oberi Art CIC, we're not just preserving street art culture — we're building a home for it. Based in Penzance, Cornwall, we have bold ambitions for what this space, this movement, and this community can become.
A Gallery Unlike Any Other
We've taken on a large new space, and we're transforming it into something that has never existed in Cornwall before: a truly alternative gallery that puts raw, authentic street art at its centre.
The Raw Room
On the side of our building sits a space that most people would overlook — a derelict room with peeling walls, exposed surfaces, and the kind of gritty atmosphere money can't manufacture. We're keeping it exactly that way.
This room will become a dedicated exhibition space for raw street art and graffiti, left deliberately rough and unpolished. No white walls. No rope barriers. No sterile lighting. Just genuine, lived-in atmosphere and world-class work.
We're inviting high-calibre, high-end street artists to exhibit here — letting their pieces breathe in the kind of environment they were always meant for. It will feel like discovering something hidden. Because that's exactly what it is.
The Main Exhibition Space
Step through into the main gallery and the scale opens up. This space will feature:
-
Large-scale murals painted directly onto the walls by established and emerging street artists
-
Canvases and framed works rooted in graffiti and street art traditions
-
Sculptures and three-dimensional models exploring the visual language of street culture
-
Rotating exhibitions that bring fresh voices and new perspectives to Cornwall
Together, the two spaces create a gallery experience that is raw and refined, underground and elevated — all at once.
An Expanded Artists' Shop
We're growing our shop into a real platform for graffiti and street artists to sell their work.
Whether it's original canvases, prints, handmade pieces, or supplies, we want ABIRI to be the place where artists can reach buyers and where buyers can connect directly with the culture. More artists. More work. More access for everyone.
Campaigning for Legal Walls in Cornwall
One of our most important long-term ambitions is to change the landscape — literally.
We're campaigning to establish legal graffiti walls across Cornwall, starting with Penzance. Our goal is to create designated spaces where graffiti artists can work freely and openly, producing high-quality pieces that the community can take pride in.
Why legal walls matter:
-
They redirect creative energy away from surfaces that cause conflict
-
They reduce anti-social behaviour and the kind of nuisance graffiti that frustrates residents and councils
-
They create real, visible opportunities for young people to express themselves safely and legally
-
They bring professional and emerging artists together in public spaces, raising the standard and profile of street art across the region
We believe that when people are given a legitimate space to create, they create something worth looking at. Penzance deserves that. Cornwall deserves that.
